In his keynote address at the 2013 CEF Annual Meeting, Ecolab CEO Doug Baker argued that water is already hindering economic activity and a real risk to many companies’ balance sheets. “If we don’t change the input value of water in our financial equations,” he said, “by the time the water costs that much it’s going to be too late… So water really needs to be priced—and we can do this internally. We don’t have to wait.”
